Bengaluru: A fire broke out on the premises of a chemical factory in the industrial area of Bashettihalli on the morning of Monday September 26, near Bank Circle on Doddaballapura Main Road.
Officials from the Fire and Emergency Services said they received the alert about the fire on the premises of Resonance Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. at 9.45 am When officials from the Doddaballapura Fire Station arrived with a water tanker, they found containers filled with chemicals that had been stored in an open field in the factory, on fire.
Four fire tenders were dispatched for service. The operation involved over 20 firefighters from the Doddaballapura, Devanahalli, and Yelahanka fire stations, as well as District Fire Officer Kishore and Station Fire Officer L. Govindaraju.
According to sources, the fire was put out by 12.00 pm. There were hundreds of workers in the factory at the time of the incident but none were in the area of the chemical containers. The fire may have been started by a chemical reaction. “We use foam liquid to put out the fire. We often don’t use water when such compounds catch fire, informed Govindaraju.
For the operation, as many as 40 cans of foam liquid were used. Although there was a lot of smoke inside the facility, neither the employees nor the firefighters had any trouble breathing, informed the police.
As soon as the fire was discovered, the workers were asked to leave the factory. Police said that they have not yet received a formal complaint on the occurrence or an assessment of the losses. Further investigation is on.
