Bengaluru‘s growing appetite for international cuisine has welcomed a unique new addition with the launch of the city’s first dedicated Taiyaki bar in Indiranagar.

Named Bungeo, the café is introducing food lovers to Taiyaki, one of Japan’s most popular street snacks, while also offering a range of Japanese and Korean comfort foods. The new outlet aims to combine authentic East Asian flavours with a modern café experience, attracting everyone from dessert enthusiasts to anime fans and curious food explorers.

A Japanese street favourite arrives in Bengaluru

At the heart of the menu is Taiyaki, a fish-shaped pastry that has been a favourite in Japan for more than a century. Despite its appearance, the snack contains no fish. It is traditionally made using pancake-like batter cooked in a fish mould and filled with sweet ingredients.

Bungeo offers classic varieties including Red Bean, Custard and Nutella fillings. Freshly prepared and served warm, the pastries feature a crisp exterior and soft centre, making them a popular grab-and-go dessert.

More than just Taiyaki

While the café’s signature attraction is its Taiyaki selection, the menu extends far beyond desserts.

Guests can choose from ramen, rice bowls, omurice, starters and a variety of Japanese-inspired beverages. Matcha-based desserts and drinks feature prominently, while Thai boba teas and jasmine tea offer refreshing alternatives.

A standout offering is the Soft Serve Taiyaki, where creamy soft-serve ice cream is paired with the iconic pastry. Available in different styles, the dessert features rotating ice cream flavours that change every two weeks.

Growing appetite for global flavours

The arrival of Bungeo reflects Bengaluru’s evolving food culture, where global culinary traditions are increasingly finding a place alongside local favourites.

By bringing a popular Japanese street food experience to the city, the café adds another destination for residents seeking new flavours and international dining experiences without leaving Bengaluru
