Bengaluru: Government fined for delaying taluk, panchayat polls

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has fined the State Government for delaying the Taluka and Zilla panchayat elections.

The High Court gave the Karnataka Panchayat Raj Delimitation Commission an additional 90 days to complete the process of delimitation of wards in the taluk and Zilla panchayats and complete the process of providing reservations to Other Backward Classes (OBC) and other categories within the said period.

The court added that the Rs. 5 lakh fine must be paid before January 28. Out of this, Rs 2 lakh is to be deposited with the Karnataka State Legal Service Authority, Rs 2 Lakh with the Advocates Association of Bengaluru, and Rs 1 lakh with the Advocates Clerks Welfare Association.
