Bengaluru: A music event organised at a Bengaluru hospital has sparked debate on social media, with users questioning whether a healthcare facility is an appropriate venue for a Saturday night music programme.
Superhealth Bengaluru organised the event in collaboration with Localhost HQ. Videos from the programme featuring live music were shared on X, prompting mixed reactions.
Event held on non-clinical floors
An X user who shared a video described the programme as an attempt to change perceptions around hospitals and make them feel less intimidating.
According to the event’s stated house rules, the programme was held on the hospital’s non-clinical floors after OPD hours. Clinical and event areas were to remain separate, while patient areas were kept private.
The organisers said IPD access was restricted and emergency routes were kept open. Alcohol, smoking and vaping were also prohibited.
The event featured music along with beverages such as kombucha and what organisers described as “Superboosters”.
Organisers set sound and security rules
The house rules stated that sound levels were designed around the hospital’s responsibilities, with decibel limits monitored during the event.
Security and hospitality teams were reportedly present to regulate access and movement.
The organisers urged attendees to respect the hospital environment and look out for one another.
Social media users question concept
Despite the precautions outlined by the organisers, several social media users criticised the decision to host a music event inside an active hospital.
Some argued that hospitals are places where patients and families may be dealing with serious illness, grief and medical emergencies, and questioned whether a music event could be insensitive to those circumstances.
Others said there was a distinction between introducing art and music into healthcare spaces and turning a functioning hospital into a venue for entertainment.
The criticism has led to a wider discussion about whether unconventional events can coexist with the responsibilities and atmosphere of a healthcare facility.
