The Vyalikaval police have arrested a 45-year-old woman for allegedly attempting to kill a young woman in Malleswaram by attacking her with a machete in the early hours of Sunday. The accused, identified as Lalita, works as a domestic help, while the victim, Sushmita, 21, resides in Vyalikaval.
According to the complaint lodged by Sushmita’s family, the incident was the result of a minor dispute between the two women. Police said Lalita had approached Sushmita to offer personal advice, but the conversation quickly escalated when Sushmita allegedly responded with scolding and taunts.
Angered by the exchange, Lalita reportedly entered Sushmita’s room later while she was asleep and attacked her on the face with a machete. She is also accused of threatening to kill the young woman before fleeing, claiming she needed to rush home.
The injured Sushmita was immediately taken by her family to a private hospital, where she is receiving medical treatment. Doctors have not disclosed the extent of her injuries but confirmed that her condition is stable.
The police have booked Lalita under charges of attempted murder, and further investigation is in progress to determine the exact sequence of events and motive. Authorities are also questioning neighbours and reviewing any possible witness statements to strengthen the case.
