Bengaluru: Customs officials on Saturday October 1 made a huge haul of illegally smuggled in gold, mobile phones, and international e-cigarettes at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).
A case has been filed against a passenger who was travelling from Bangkok to Bengaluru and was arrested for allegedly smuggling 16 iPhone 14 phones.
In another case, three passengers travelling from Dubai to Bengaluru were nabbed illegally transporting 729 gm of gold worth Rs. 36.97 lakh. In addition, Rs. 22.16 lakh worth of e-cigarettes were seized, and a case has been registered.
In another incident, Officers arrested a man who had travelled from Mumbai with seven smaller gold bars weighing 409 gms. By putting the gold under the plane seat, the accused was trying to smuggle it. An investigation is currently underway, and a case has been filed against him. The value of the gold that was seized is also estimated to be over Rs. 17 lakh.
