Bengaluru: A law student who was allegedly stabbed by the brother of her former boyfriend after ending their relationship has succumbed to her injuries in Bengaluru, police said. The victim, identified as Amrutha, died on Wednesday, three days after the attack that took place near her residence in Kodihalli.
Police have arrested the alleged attacker, Surya, along with his brother Dhanush, and registered a case against both. Further investigation is underway.
Victim had ended relationship after learning of concealed facts
According to police, Amrutha was pursuing a law degree while also working part-time at a pizza outlet.
Investigators said she had been in a relationship with Dhanush, whom she met through a family acquaintance.
Police alleged that Amrutha decided to end the relationship after discovering that Dhanush had concealed the fact that he was divorced and had a child.
Following the breakup, tensions reportedly escalated between the two families.
Brother allegedly threatened victim
During the investigation, police found that Surya, Dhanush’s brother, had allegedly threatened Amrutha over her decision to end the relationship.
According to investigators, Surya was unhappy with her refusal to continue the relationship and had allegedly warned her against breaking ties with Dhanush.
Police are examining the sequence of events leading up to the attack and any prior communication between the accused and the victim.
Attack near victim’s residence
The incident occurred on July 13 near Amrutha’s residence in Kodihalli.
According to police, Surya allegedly confronted Amrutha, leading to an argument.
During the altercation, he allegedly stabbed her multiple times in the chest and back before fleeing the scene.
Local residents and passersby rushed to help the injured woman, who was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Succumbs after three days in hospital
Amrutha remained hospitalised in critical condition for three days.
Despite intensive medical treatment, she succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday, police said.
Following her death, her body was sent to CV Raman Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police arrest both brothers
Police have arrested Surya, the alleged assailant, as well as Dhanush, in connection with the case.
Officials have registered a case against both accused and are continuing their investigation to establish their respective roles in the incident.
Investigators are collecting witness statements and examining evidence related to the alleged threats, the attack and the events preceding the crime.
Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
Probe continues
The incident has once again drawn attention to crimes arising from relationship disputes and the importance of addressing threats and harassment before they escalate into violence.
Police said the investigation is continuing, and additional details are expected to emerge as the case progresses through the legal process.
