Bengaluru: The list of Karnataka Rajyotsava awardees has been released by the State Government on the occasion of the 67th Karnataka Rajyotsava. The list, which was released on Sunday October 30, includes 67 imminent people from various areas as well as ten organisations.

Veteran writer A. R. Mitra, Professor Krishnegowda, former ISRO Director K. Sivan, retired IAS Officer Madan Gopal and specially-abled swimmer Raghavendra Anvekar who English Channel Raghavendra Anvekar have been mentioned as the Rajoysava Awardees.

The list also includes veteran actors Dattanna and Avinash, Soligara Madamma, who popularised cooperative movements in the Soliga community, Saalumarada Ninganna of Ramanagara, who dedicated her life to the protection of the forests, and Soligara Madamma.

TV actor Sihi Kahi Chandru, Yakshagana exponents Dr. M. Prabhakar Joshi, Udupi District’s Daivanartaka Gudda Panara and Subramanya Dhareshwara, Kamalamma Sulagitti, senior music scholar Ananthacharya Balacharya, Veeragase artiste Maheswara Gowda Lingadahalli of Haveri, senior journalists H. R. Sreesha, G. M. Shirahatti, and senior researcher Dr. M. G. Nagaraj also feature in the list.

This year, the procedure for preparing the list was changed to more closely resemble the selection method for the Padma awards. Instead of choosing candidates for the awards as in the past, the final list was compiled from names suggested by committees of experts organised to find achievers across a range of fields. This is so that those who did not apply can also be found and recognised for their outstanding work.

“The Rajyotsava list for this year is extremely well-balanced. We have picked the common people who have done amazing things.  Many of them are quite modest and don’t strive for fame. To say that we chose such people is a source of pride. With the implementation of the new selection method, I believe that the worth of the award had significantly increased, “ said Minister for Kannada, Culture, and Energy V. Sunil Kumar.
