Bengaluru: Bengaluru police have registered a case against an Instagram user for allegedly posting abusive and objectionable remarks targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media over the Centre’s handling of the protests at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
The case was registered on Wednesday following a complaint lodged by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader.
Complaint alleges abusive social media video
According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Hudson, uploaded a video on Instagram in which he allegedly used abusive language while criticising Prime Minister Modi and the BJP.
The complainant alleged that the video contained objectionable remarks directed at the Prime Minister and the ruling party.
Video criticised Centre’s handling of protests
Police said the video reportedly questioned the Union government’s response to the protests at Jantar Mantar and referred to the alleged use of force against protesters.
It also reportedly raised issues related to accountability, criticised the Prime Minister for not visiting Manipur during the ethnic conflict, and levelled allegations of corruption against the BJP.
Police register case
Based on the complaint, Bengaluru police have booked the Instagram user under relevant legal provisions. Officials have not disclosed further details regarding the sections invoked or whether any arrest has been made.
The investigation is currently underway.
Police are expected to examine the social media content and gather further evidence as part of the inquiry.
