A tragic accident in south Bengaluru has claimed the life of a 29-year-old housekeeping supervisor after a kite string, commonly known as Chinese manja, allegedly slit his throat while he was riding his motorcycle to work.
The victim, identified as Kiran G, was a resident of Arasappa Layout in Tataguni and originally hailed from Kanakapura. The incident occurred on May 30 within the limits of Thalaghattapura Police Station but came to light after his family filed a formal complaint.
Fatal injury while on way to work
According to police, Kiran had been working as a housekeeping supervisor at the ISKCON temple in Gubbalala on Kanakapura Road for the past four years.
As per the complaint lodged by his wife, Nandini, Kiran was travelling to his workplace for his second shift around 12.30 pm via Pipeline Road in Thalaghattapura when a manja string allegedly left hanging across the road became entangled around his neck.
The sharp-coated string caused a deep wound to his throat, leading to severe bleeding.
Passersby rushed him to hospital
Witnesses immediately shifted Kiran to a nearby private hospital for treatment. However, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the use of Chinese manja, which has been linked to several fatal and serious accidents involving motorists, pedestrians and birds.
Police register case
Based on the complaint filed by the victim’s family, Thalaghattapura police have registered a case of culpable homicide and initiated an investigation.
Nandini alleged that those flying kites were aware of the dangers posed by manja strings and urged authorities to identify those responsible and take strict legal action.
Police are currently examining CCTV footage from the area and gathering evidence to trace the individuals involved
