Bengaluru: A man died after he accidentally slipped and fell into a drain that was left open for more than three months.

The deceased has been identified as Venkatesh K. (31) from Chitradurga. He worked as a tractor driver at a construction site in Nelagadaranahalli.

According to sources, Venkatesh was walking by the roadside in T Dasarahalli in Peenya when he slipped into an open drain and died at around 11.30 pm on Sunday September 25. Passersby tried to rescue Venkatesh but in vain. According to the police, who have filed a case against an assistant engineer and three other officials, the slabs were removed three months ago to desilt the drain, but the drain was not covered once the work was completed.

The officials have received a notice from the police asking them to appear before the investigation officer. It has also been recorded what eyewitness Ramaiah said. On Tuesday, the deceased’s body was handed over to his family. His family members protested in front of the T Dasarahalli BBMP office and demanded compensation. Advocate M. R. Balakrishna said that as soon as a case is filed, the police must arrest BBMP officials.
