Bengaluru: The travel time between Bengaluru- Mangaluru train will reduce by one and half hour shortly as few bottle necks have been cleared en route.
New tracks have been laid between Shravanbelagola and Hassan at the cost of Rs 1300 crores. The dream project of former prime minister H D Devegowda was initiated in 1997 during his regime is set to see the light of the day. Once the rail safety commissioner gives clearance, the line will be operational.
The project faced lot of problems mainly at Kunigal’s Vijay Mallya stud farm and from farmers over land acquisition.
The time to travel from Chikka Banavara railway station in Mangaluru is 11hours 15 minutes at present. Once the new track is commissioned the travel time will reduce by 90 minutes, said Southern Railway spokes person M Ravindranath Reddy.
