A motorist who recently travelled from Bengaluru to Mangaluru via Hassan, Sakleshpur and Uppinangady has shared important road safety observations for those using the route.

The journey on April 14 and 15 was largely smooth, with only a 20-minute traffic jam reported near Nelamangala Junction during the return trip.

Sudden missing road stretches

The traveller said several sections unexpectedly had no proper road surface for 100 to 200 metres, at times without sufficient warning boards.

Temporary diversions were also reported where vehicles were guided onto the opposite carriageway without proper median separation.

According to the account, this created confusion and increased the risk of collisions, especially during night driving.

High-beam and visibility issues

The driver noted that powerful high beams from oncoming vehicles made these stretches more dangerous after dark.

Hazard lights were reportedly used to alert approaching traffic while crossing diversion zones.

Accidents on ghat section

The motorist also witnessed multiple accidents in the ghat stretch, where some drivers appeared to misjudge the turning space needed by heavy vehicles on sharp bends.

In one incident, a milk truck reportedly toppled and sideswiped a nearby car.

Unsafe overtaking and aggressive driving were also highlighted as continuing concerns.

Best halt on route

Among all the stops during the trip, Hotel Harsha Grand was praised for good breakfast and clean washrooms.

Caution for travellers

Drivers taking the Bengaluru-Mangaluru route were advised to remain alert for diversions, damaged patches, heavy vehicles on curves, and rash overtaking, particularly at night.
