Bengaluru: A frustrating search for a cab or bike taxi ended with an unexpected trip down memory lane for a Bengaluru man, who said a ₹12 bus journey reminded him of the simpler days of his school and college years.
Pratej, who shared his experience on Instagram, said he spent nearly two hours trying to book a Rapido bike, auto or cab. He was even prepared to pay ₹150 to get home, but none of the options worked.
From waiting for cabs to taking the bus
After giving up, Pratej walked nearly 800 metres to Madiwala and asked himself: “Why not take a bus?”
The decision immediately brought back memories of his younger days. He recalled walking to bus stops, waiting with friends, competing for window seats, chatting about nothing in particular and searching for ₹1 or ₹2 in change to pay the conductor.
This time, however, there was a modern twist. Instead of searching for loose change, he scanned a QR code and paid through UPI.
₹12 journey offers more than convenience
Pratej travelled by bus from Madiwala to Sony World Signal and paid just ₹12.
He said the inexpensive journey gave him something that the ₹150 he had been willing to spend could not — “peace, nostalgia, memories”.
The experience also made him reflect on how some of life’s most meaningful memories are created through simple experiences rather than expensive conveniences.
“Money can buy convenience, but it can’t buy nostalgia,” he said.
Social media users relate to experience
The post received warm reactions from Instagram users, with several people saying they continue to prefer buses over autos and cabs in Bengaluru.
Some described the post as a heartwarming reminder of simpler times, while others shared their own preference for travelling by bus.
The incident also highlights how Bengaluru’s public buses remain part of everyday life for many residents, even as app-based cabs, autos and bike taxis have become increasingly popular.
For Pratej, however, what began as a frustrating journey home ended as a reminder that sometimes the simplest route can bring back the most cherished memories.
