Bengaluru: A 22-year-old man’s candid confession about wanting to quit his job has struck a deep chord with young working professionals across the country. Aanshul Uthaiah, a full-time employee in Bengaluru who also creates content on Instagram, posted a video on Sunday admitting he planned to resign the next day without any clear idea of what he would do next.

The video, shared with the caption “Sunday ramblings”, quickly went viral and ignited widespread conversation about burnout, career dissatisfaction and the pressures faced by young employees in urban work cultures.

‘I hate my job and my life situation right now,’ says Uthaiah

In the monologue, Uthaiah spoke openly about his struggles. “I am quitting my job tomorrow and I have no clue what I am going to do,” he said, adding that he disliked both his work and the life situation he found himself in.

He revealed that he had received admission offers from two universities in Australia for higher studies but did not wish to pursue them because he did not want to return to academics. “I work a full-time job which I don’t like at all. I find it very boring. It’s just got to my head so much that I really can’t do it anymore. I feel like I am wasting my time,” he said.

He also acknowledged that his parents were unhappy with his decision to consider resigning from a stable job, a concern shared by many Indian families when it comes to career risks.

Viral video doubles his follower count

At the time of posting the now-viral clip, Uthaiah had around 10,000 followers on Instagram. Within 48 hours, the number more than doubled, crossing 20,000. The video has since garnered over two million views, turning him into one of the latest faces of relatable workplace content on social media.

Uthaiah, who began creating content just three months ago, said he wanted to put his full energy into content creation. A fitness enthusiast who calls himself an “average gym grower”, he frequently posts workout videos and lifestyle snippets online.

‘I am scared’: He shares second thoughts on quitting

After his first video gained massive traction, Uthaiah shared another clip capturing his early morning confusion before work. “It’s 7:45 am right now and I have to go to work by 10 am, and I am scared. I don’t know what to do. I am having second thoughts right now,” he admitted.

He explained that while one part of him urged him to take more time before making a decision, another part said he should “just go for it”. The fear of losing a stable income, he said, was the biggest reason he was hesitating. At the same time, he questioned whether he would ever take a leap if not now.

“I just wanted to be honest,” he said, adding that he wanted to share his real emotions rather than curated content.

Internet reacts with empathy and humour

Over 2,000 comments poured in on his first video, with many young professionals relating to his feelings of burnout and uncertainty.

One user joked that Bengaluru’s gloomy weather may have worsened his Sunday blues. Another commented: “Brother, full support from my end and a big shoutout to you!”

“You cannot reach somewhere and be someone unless you leave behind where you are and who you are right now. All the very best junior,” wrote another supporter.

The viral moment has sparked a broader discussion about career anxiety among the youth, many of whom feel torn between financial stability and personal fulfilment. For now, Uthaiah continues to share updates with his rapidly growing audience as he decides whether to take the leap or hold on to his job a little longer.
