Bengaluru Metro commuters have a reason to cheer as the Namma Metro initiated trial runs on the Green Line extension from Nagasandra to Madavara on Tuesday. The extended segment is expected to be fully operational by late September or early October, according to Bengaluru Metro officials.
The new extension, costing Rs 298 crore, covers a distance of 3.7 kilometers. The Green Line will include stations at Manjunath Nagar, Chikkabidarakallu (formerly Jindal Nagar), and Madavara (BIEC). This extension is anticipated to enhance connectivity for passengers travelling from Nelamangala, Makali, and Madanayakanahalli, as well as those visiting the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre.
The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has been busy with deep cleaning and various tests. The Managing Director mentioned that the trial run would last for a month, with plans to invite the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety for an inspection by the second week of September.
Passengers should expect longer wait times between trains due to the extension, as existing trains will be utilized on the Green Line. However, this development promises improved access to key areas and better service for commuters.
