Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line to be operational after second week of January 2025

Metro

Bengaluru: The much-anticipated Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro is set to become operational after the second week of January 2025, according to reports. While the official launch date is still pending, trial runs are currently underway using a prototype train that arrived in the city earlier this year. The Research, Design, and Standards Organisation (RDSO) is supervising these trials to ensure that all systems comply with safety and operational standards before the metro’s official inauguration.

Nagasandra-Madavara Stretch

In addition to the Yellow Line, the Nagasandra-Madavara stretch on the Green Line is expected to commence operations shortly after Deepavali. This new section will add 3.7 kilometres to the existing Green Line, which aims to enhance connectivity and alleviate traffic congestion in the northern parts of the city.

The project, however, has faced significant delays, including a five-year postponement attributed to land acquisition issues near NICE Road and interruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) planned to launch operations by mid-October, but various hurdles have pushed back the timeline.

Once operational, both the Yellow Line and the extended Green Line are expected to greatly improve public transportation in Bengaluru, contributing to reduced traffic congestion and a more efficient commuting experience for residents.
