Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has prohibited contractors of Solid Waste Management from displaying Palike stickers on their garbage-collection vehicles.

“We outsourced garbage collection, but BBMP is always held accountable if a waste truck or tipper accident is reported. We had nothing to do with the accident. Seeing the BBMP stickers, it is assumed the vehicle belongs to Palike,” said Harish Kumar, Commissioner, BBMP Solid Waste Management.

It stated in a notification that the rule applies to all trucks working under contract to manage solid waste. “The contractor is required to compensate for any lives lost in an accident,” it added.
