Bengaluru: The Department of College Education has asked all colleges in the State to provide admission to gender minorities on the basis of self-attested certificates issued by them instead of asking for a medical certificate when they seek admission in colleges.

All Government and private aided colleges in the State have been asked to provide certain facilities in the education system for gender minorities and implement them. Accordingly, gender minorities should be accommodated in the application form for college hostels. Also, hostels should be provided accommodation as per their self-determined gender identity.

The Department of College Education has asked principals to take into consideration only the self-declared affidavit of transgender students without making surgery, proof, and medical certificate mandatory for them to frame guidelines for admission of transgender students or when students want to change their gender identity in university records.
