Bengaluru: Parappana Agrahara Central prison has bagged the first prize in the 6th All India Prison Duty Meet in Prison Hygiene Competition. The contest, which was recently held in Ahmedabad, had around 1,319 prisons from all states and Union Territories.
A Central prison in Andhra Pradesh won the second prize, and a prison in Tamil Nadu won the third place.
Some of the criteria that were evaluated as part of the competition included food quality, prisoner living conditions and health, prison compound cleanliness, bathroom and toilet maintenance, safety and security, and duty deployment. On August 26, a team of five officials from the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), New Delhi, visited to Parappana Agrahara to inspect the jail. The delegation was led by the Assistant Director of the BPR&D.
