Bengaluru: The City Police Commissioner C. H. Pratap Reddy has made obtaining police permission necessary for hosting New Year and Christmas parties to avoid any untoward incidents.

He held a meeting with representatives of hotels, clubs, and other event planners on Friday December 16 to discuss plans at his office on Infantry Road. He gave them the order to request permission in advance from the concerned civic authorities, including the local police. Event organisers must be specific about the kinds of events they want to host when requesting permissions. Without permission, parties are not allowed. The safety of women and children is also a top priority for the event organisers, who have been given strict orders to ensure that drugs are not allowed at the events.

The installation of high-resolution CCTV cameras, power backup through UPS and generators, adequate lighting at the venues, the checking of the criminal backgrounds of security guards and employees hired for the event, dialling 112 or the jurisdictional police to report any suspicious person or any unclaimed object, frisking, the banning of weapons even if they are licenced, tie-up with transport operators to ensure dropping women staff to their homes after the event, avoiding the sale of tickets beyond capacity to avoid overcrowding, deployment of both male and female security guards and educating staff on good behaviour with participants are the preventive measures made mandatory by the police.
