Bengaluru : In a shocking turn of events, Bengaluru police have arrested Mohan, the stepfather of Srushti (14) and Soniya (16), in connection with their murders at their home in Amruthahalli, Northeast Bengaluru. Mohan had been missing since Saturday afternoon, and his phone had been switched off, making him the prime suspect. The investigation, led by Sajeeth VJ, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast), involved three police teams working tirelessly to track him down. Mohan was eventually apprehended at Yeshwantpur railway station around 5.30 p.m. on Sunday, just as he was about to board a train to his hometown.

A senior police officer monitoring the case confirmed that the arrest procedures had been completed and that Mohan would be produced before the court on Monday. “He was trying to flee, but our team managed to trace and arrest him before he could escape,” the officer stated.

Mohan appeared traumatised at the time of his arrest, limiting the initial questioning. However, the police plan to seek a 10-day custody order to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the murders.

Anita, the mother of the two girls, told reporters on Sunday that Mohan had recently become increasingly suspicious and controlling, often restricting the girls from interacting with others. While it is still too early to draw definitive conclusions, the police will consider Anita’s statements during their interrogation of Mohan.

The tragic incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, around 3.30 p.m., and was reported to the police approximately four hours later. The family had relocated to Amruthahalli two years ago from another area in Bengaluru.

Anita, originally from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, had been living with Mohan for the past nine years after separating from her first husband. Mohan, a native of Dehradun, Uttarakhand, is now at the centre of a case that has shocked the local community.
