BENGALURU: The Bengaluru City Police has issued a summons to Nikita Singhania, wife of 34-year-old engineer Atul Subhash, who died by suicide on December 9, alleging harassment by his estranged wife and her family.
A four-member police team, led by Sub-Inspector Sanjeet Kumar, visited Singhania’s residence in the Khowa Mandi area of Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday. Finding the house locked, they pasted a notice summoning her to appear at Marathahalli Police Station, Bengaluru, within three days for interrogation.
Circle Officer (City) Ayush Srivastava confirmed that the notice was solely addressed to Nikita, despite the FIR naming other accused, including her mother, uncle, and brother.
The police team, which arrived in Jaunpur late Thursday, first met Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma before proceeding with their investigation. They plan to visit the local civil court to gather information on previous legal cases involving Singhania.
Atul Subhash, a techie, ended his life on Monday, leaving behind allegations of harassment against his estranged wife and her family. A case of abetment to suicide has been registered, bringing attention to the circumstances surrounding his death.
This tragic incident has also sparked wider discussions, with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in the Supreme Court seeking a review of dowry and domestic violence laws.
