Bengaluru: A woman Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) and two police constables attached to the HAL Police Station in Bengaluru were arrested by the Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) after they were allegedly caught accepting a bribe during an investigation in Jaipur.
The arrested personnel have been identified as Anitha K, a woman PSI, and Head Constables Ullvappa Tegur and Yateesh, all attached to the HAL Police Station.
According to officials, the three police personnel had travelled to Jaipur in connection with the investigation of a dowry harassment case registered in Bengaluru. During the course of the inquiry, they allegedly demanded money from the accused party in exchange for providing relief in the case.
Bribery allegation leads to ACB operation
According to the Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau, a complaint was received alleging that the complainant and his family members were facing a dowry harassment case registered at the HAL Police Station.
The complaint alleged that the visiting police personnel demanded ₹2 lakh to dilute the case and help clear the names of the accused family members. Acting on the complaint, ACB officials initiated surveillance and planned a trap operation.
Investigators alleged that the police personnel instructed the complainant to arrange the money and fixed a meeting at a hotel in Jaipur for its collection.
Head constable caught during trap
Based on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap at Hotel Gangaur in Jaipur on Sunday. During the operation, Head Constable Ullvappa Tegur was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting ₹40,000, which was part of the alleged bribe amount.
Officials said the trap was executed after verifying the complaint and gathering preliminary evidence regarding the alleged demand for illegal gratification.
Following the arrest, ACB officials questioned the police personnel and examined their role in the alleged bribery transaction.
Two others also arrested
During the investigation, ACB officials reportedly found evidence suggesting the involvement of the other two personnel who had accompanied the head constable to Jaipur.
Subsequently, PSI Anitha K and Head Constable Yateesh were also taken into custody. Authorities have registered a case against all three under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The accused are currently being questioned as investigators gather additional evidence and examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged demand and acceptance of the bribe.
Bengaluru police await detailed report
Deputy Commissioner of Police Saidulu Adavath of the Whitefield Division confirmed that the personnel had travelled to Jaipur as part of an investigation into a dowry harassment case.
According to preliminary information available to Bengaluru police, one of the constables was caught by Rajasthan ACB officials while allegedly accepting the bribe amount. Further details are expected following the completion of the investigation by Rajasthan authorities.
The incident has drawn attention as it involves serving police personnel accused of corruption while carrying out official duties outside the state.
Authorities are expected to initiate departmental proceedings based on the outcome of the criminal investigation. Further action will be determined after the submission of reports by the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
