Heavy rains that lashed Bengaluru have left at least 750 homes in low-income settlements flooded, forcing hundreds of families to spend the night on the streets.
Hundreds displaced overnight
Residents from areas such as Bangi Colony, Vinobha Nagar, and Narasimhaiah Colony reported severe waterlogging, with floodwaters entering homes and damaging essential belongings.
In Bangi Colony alone, nearly 180 houses were affected. “There are small children and we do not know what to do. All our household items, including groceries, are spoiled,” said a resident, expressing distress over the situation.
Widespread damage across settlements
Volunteers working with communities said around 300 houses in Vinobha Nagar and 130 in Narasimhaiah Colony near Mysuru Road were also impacted.
Due to power outages in several areas, the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
Residents allege repeated neglect
Locals said such flooding is not new and blamed authorities for failing to address long-standing drainage and infrastructure issues.
“Every time it rains, we are left on the road,” said a resident of Jolly Mohalla, highlighting recurring hardships during monsoon spells.
Call for immediate relief measures
Affected families have urged authorities to open nearby community halls and government schools as temporary shelters during heavy rains.
Many residents said they are hoping for immediate assistance, including food, clean water, and basic supplies, as they struggle to recover from the sudden loss.
Growing concern over urban flooding
The incident underscores the vulnerability of informal settlements during extreme weather events and raises questions about preparedness and response mechanisms in rapidly growing urban areas.
Authorities are expected to review the situation as rains continue to impact parts of the city
