Bengaluru/Hyderabad: A Bengaluru-based scientist along with an Indian Air Force (IAF) of has been arrested after multi-state raids exposed an international ring dealing in drugs like Ecstasy. Rs 230 crore worth 221 kg of ready-to-use amphetamine has been seized.
The arrested are Venkat Rama Rao, a research scientist and Air Force Wing Commander G Rajasekhara Reddy.
Reddy who was on his way to Goa from Hyderabad was caught in Nanded in Maharashtra on October 4. The officer who is believed to be one of the main suppliers in the network was arrested along with over Rs. 7 lakh cash, five mobile phones and documents.
It is gathered that the Narcotics Control Bureau and the Air Force intelligence wing had kept an eye on the officer who was posted in the Directorate of Information Technology in Delhi. Sources said, Hyderabad was the base where amphetamines, which are used in several party drugs, were being manufactured at a leased factory. The drugs were allegedly trafficked mainly to countries like Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
It is said that Rao and his wife were key members of the syndicate. Rao and Reddy had been classmates and resumed contact when the officer was posted in Bengaluru.
