Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Engineer Lokesh M. said that the much-awaited Shivananda steel bridge project will be completed and opened to the public on August 30. The steel bridge project was supposed to be opened to the public by August 15.
The opening was delayed due to problems with the ramp and culvert work. To help with traffic, the BBMP had opened one stretch of the flyover. The BBMP Engineers responded to complaints from some commuters, mostly motorists, who used the stretch, saying there would be no problems after the work is completed.
“The bridge’s uneven surfaces will be levelled before it is opened. The BBMP has saved around Rs. 40 Crore by dropping the plan for new land acquisition. The project plan was altered and designed in accordance with Indian Road Congress standards,” said Lokesh.
The project began in 2017 with an estimated budget of Rs. 15 Crore, and the final cost is now Rs. 39 Crore. Residents’ PIL posed a problem for the project. Supreme Court gave the BBMP its clearance. Owing to the pandemic and recent rains, other factors lead to the delay.
