Bengaluru: A 31-year-old woman working as a software engineer was brutally attacked by her neighbour’s pet dog during her morning walk, with CCTV footage of the incident now surfacing and causing widespread concern over pet safety and owner responsibility in residential areas.
The incident occurred on January 26 at around 6:54 am when the woman stepped out for her routine walk in a gated residential colony. According to police, the dog allegedly attacked her without any provocation, lunging at her suddenly and biting her on the neck before pulling her to the ground.
CCTV footage from the area shows the woman struggling to fend off the animal as it continues to maul her. She suffered multiple injuries to her face, hands and legs while attempting to protect herself. The visuals have since gone viral, triggering outrage and fear among residents and netizens alike.
Bystander intervenes during attack
As the attack unfolded, a man nearby rushed to help the woman after hearing her screams. However, when he tried to pull the dog away, the animal reportedly turned aggressive towards him as well. The footage shows the man grabbing the dog by its neck in an attempt to restrain it.
During the struggle, the injured woman managed to get back on her feet, run indoors and shut the gate behind her to escape further harm. The bystander eventually succeeded in pulling the dog away, preventing what could have been even more severe injuries.
Victim hospitalised with serious injuries
The woman was immediately rushed to hospital, where doctors confirmed that she had sustained deep bite wounds and lacerations across her body. Medical sources said she required more than 50 stitches, particularly on her face and limbs, and remains under treatment.
Doctors have described her condition as stable, but noted that she will require time to recover both physically and emotionally from the traumatic incident. Family members said she remains shaken by the attack.
Complaint filed against dog owner
Following the incident, the victim’s husband filed a formal complaint at the local police station, accusing the dog owner of negligence. He alleged that the animal was not properly restrained and posed a known risk to residents in the area.
Police officials confirmed that a case has been registered and that they are examining CCTV footage and statements from witnesses. The dog owner has been questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
Renewed concerns over pet safety
The incident has once again raised serious questions about pet ownership norms, enforcement of leash rules and accountability in urban residential colonies. Residents of the area have reportedly demanded stricter action and better regulation to prevent similar attacks in the future.
Civic authorities have also reiterated that pet owners are legally responsible for ensuring their animals do not pose a threat to others, especially in shared public spaces.
Conclusion
As the investigation continues, the shocking CCTV visuals serve as a grim reminder of the consequences of negligent pet ownership. The case is likely to intensify calls for stricter enforcement of animal control laws to ensure public safety in residential neighbourhoods.’
