Bengaluru: Voter ID theft, two more NGO staff arrested

Bengaluru: Police arrested two more staff of the NGO Chilume in connection with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) voter data fraud case. Halasuru officers detained Maruti Gowda and Abhishek from the City outskirts on Wednesday November 30.

The two are said to have helped the main accused, Ravikumar, with the alleged impersonation and data tampering. Later, the two detainees were arrested.

The duo was arrested based on circumstantial evidence and records. The accused will be produced before the court, informed the police.

As many as 13 persons have been detained by Central Division Police in connection with the voter data theft case. Following allegations from BBMP officials, officers first detained two Chilume employees, Dharmesh and Renuka Prasad, and later detained four BBMP Revenue officials.

The Election Commission also suspended S. Rangappa and K. Srinivas, Additional Electoral Registration Officers.  Police department sources claim that the two officers will get notices to appear before a probe.
