Bengaluru: A 23-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend following an argument over marriage in Bengaluru’s Mahalakshmi Layout. The accused, identified as Rajeev, was arrested shortly after the incident, police said.
The incident took place on Sunday on Pipeline Road, within the jurisdiction of the Mahalakshmi Layout Police Station. The victim, Anjali, reportedly sustained fatal injuries after being attacked during a heated argument over their future together.
Police have registered a murder case and launched an investigation into the incident.
Couple were in a long-term relationship
According to police, Anjali and Rajeev had been in a relationship for the past three to four years after meeting at their workplace.
Investigators said the couple wanted to get married, but Anjali’s family had allegedly opposed the relationship because of Rajeev’s background.
Police said Rajeev had repeatedly attempted to convince Anjali and her family to agree to the marriage. However, in recent days, Anjali had reportedly begun distancing herself from him after facing pressure from her family.
Dinner meeting turns fatal
Police said Rajeev allegedly invited Anjali for dinner on Sunday evening in an attempt to discuss their marriage once again.
During the meeting, an argument reportedly broke out between the two. Investigators allege that Rajeev then attacked Anjali with a knife he had brought with him, stabbing her in the neck.
People nearby rushed the injured woman to a hospital, but doctors declared her dead during treatment.
Her body has been shifted to MS Ramaiah Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Accused arrested
Mahalakshmi Layout police reached the scene soon after receiving information about the incident.
Rajeev was arrested within minutes, according to police officials.
A case of murder has been registered, and investigators are collecting evidence and recording statements to determine the sequence of events leading to the alleged crime.
Police said further investigation is underway.
Similar incident reported earlier this month
The incident comes weeks after another alleged murder involving a couple in Bengaluru.
Earlier this month, a 22-year-old woman from Sikkim, identified as Ati Hangma Subba, was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, Purba Lepcha, following a dispute.
According to police, the couple had recently moved to Bengaluru for work. Investigators alleged that an argument broke out after the accused suspected the woman of being involved with another person.
Police claimed that the accused attacked the woman with a kitchen knife, resulting in her death.
The case remains under investigation.
Investigation continues
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Anjali’s death, including the events leading up to the alleged attack and the evidence recovered from the scene.
Authorities have urged the public not to speculate about the case while the investigation is ongoing.
Conclusion
The alleged murder has once again highlighted concerns over violent crimes arising from relationship disputes. Police have arrested the accused and initiated a detailed investigation, while the victim’s family awaits further legal proceedings.
