Bengaluru: Cyber thieves, who made a WhatsApp call from an unknown number and took a photo of a woman, blackmailed her into making obscene photos and duped her of Rs 12 lakh.

A 31-year-old woman from Banashankari was duped. The link to the complainant’s WhatsApp was received from an unknown number. When the link was clicked, the woman furnished the information which was asked for in it.

Soon after, the cyber thieves hacked the contact and gallery on the woman’s mobile phone and made a video call to WhatsApp from various numbers. The cyber thieves captured her photo without the woman’s knowledge when she received the call. Then they blackmailed her into saying that they would edit the photo along with the pornographic ones and demanded money.

Alarmed by this, the woman deposited a total of Rs. 12 lakh in a bank account suggested by the cyber thieves in a phased manner. The woman has lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police.
