Bengaluru: A 52-year-old woman was duped of Rs. 12 lakh online by a fraudster posing as a foreigner sending her a present.

Rajarajeshwari Nagar resident Sarita has been named as the victim.

According to reports, Sarita recently received a WhatsApp message from an unknown person posing as a foreigner. Soon after they started talking, he said he was going shopping and would buy her gifts. The accused said to have sent her a gift a few days later but said that she would have to pay customs fees. Sarita got a call the same day informing her that her gift package had arrived at the airport and she would need to pay customs fees.

The fraudsters asked for money from her to fill out an international monetary order form and then later for delivery fees. She ended up paying Rs 12 lakh.
