Bengaluru: The Women’s Coffee Alliance – India (WCAI) kicked off the 7th edition of its annual fundraiser, Coffee Santhe, at Freedom Park on Friday. This three-day event supports women coffee plantation workers, promoting their role beyond farming—from roasting to retail and café ownership.

India’s Evolving Coffee Culture

WCAI Secretary Poornima Jairaj highlighted the rise of home brewing and the shift toward high-quality coffee. Rohan Mammen of Badra Coffee noted India’s transition from a tea-drinking nation to a coffee-savvy one, fueled by café culture.

Meanwhile, Cothas Coffee introduced cold coffee, milkshakes, and vending machines tailored for GenZ. Madras Kaapi Club, run entirely by women entrepreneurs, stays off food delivery apps, emphasizing direct sales.

Sustainability & Climate Concerns

Speakers also addressed the impact of climate change on coffee production, raising concerns about the future of traditional coffee-growing regions.

Event Highlights

The Santhe features the Women Stars Brewing Championship, Robusta Brewer Skills Championship, coffee cupping sessions, and entertainment by Saroj Kashyap, Padmini Ravi, Navin DJ, and Table for 4 Band. Attendees can enjoy live art, coffee wordle, and interactive games.
