Bengaluru: BJP leader N R Ramesh has formally requested the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to reconsider its decision to extend park timings to 6 am to 10 pm. According to Ramesh, the extended hours have led to a rise in illegal activities and public disturbances, such as instances of public displays of affection by youngsters, which he claims have caused discomfort for other park visitors.
In his statement, Ramesh highlighted several issues that have arisen due to the extended park hours. He pointed out that the longer operational hours have resulted in an increase in undesirable activities and have led to incidents where park security guards were attacked. He also emphasised the need for park maintenance workers to have sufficient time to carry out their duties, such as watering plants and performing other upkeep tasks.
Ramesh noted that the parks, which have been developed with significant financial investments, require at least 4 to 5 hours of maintenance work each day. To accommodate this, he suggested that the BBMP revert to the previous park hours, which were from 6 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 8 pm.
“The decision to extend park hours has led to an increase in illegal activities and disturbances. Workers need adequate time to maintain the parks properly, and the extended hours have made this challenging,” Ramesh said in his statement.
He urged the BBMP to consider the old timings, arguing that this would help in managing park operations more effectively and ensuring a more pleasant environment for all visitors.
