Bengaluru: Umesh Katti, former minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA (Hukkeri) was seen with gutka in his hand at an assembly session which was being held at Vidhana Soudha.

It has not been confirmed as to from where he got the banned tobacco product from.

Karnataka joined the 25 States and five Union Territories in banning the sale of smokeless tobacco, after Health Minister U.T. Khader announced in Bengaluru in 2013 that the government has banned the sale of gutka and pan masala containing nicotine or tobacco with immediate effect. The announcement was made on the occasion of the World No Tobacco Day in the interest of public health.
