Bengaluru: The Police Department in the State with immediate effect has banned demonstrations, gatherings, or protest of any kind within 200-metre radius from the gate of educational institutions for next two weeks.

The restrictions applies to premises surrounding schools, PU colleges, degree colleges or other similar educational institutions of the City. The order from the Police Commissioner of the City stated that it has been noticed that in certain parts of the State, in the last few days, protests and agitations have been held in connection with strict enforecement of schools/colleges uniform rule. Also at some places these protests have led to violence disturbing public peace and order, it stated.

Further, it noted that since the possibility of similar agitations/protests being held at the City cannot be ruled out, it is very essential to initiate proper security measures to maintain public peace, and order so that the City remains undisturbed. Therefore, it is considered appropriate to restrict holding of protests, agitations for and against implementation of the schools/colleges uniform rules in the City, it added.
