Bengaluru: Bellandur police arrested a 33-year-old man posing as a fake Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) agent and claimed to work in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Arahanth Mohan Kumar Lakkavalli, a resident of Rajajinagar IV block and a Shivamogga native, has been identified as the arrested accused. According to sources, he works as a realtor.
The accused allegedly met the victim, software developer Sonul Saxena (31), on a flight to Kuala Lumpur in 2019. The victim informed him that her visa applications to Italy and the Czech Republic had been rejected after a brief exchange.
The accused promised to help her and maintained contact with her for more than three years. During this time, he said that her visa had been blocked as she was suspected of being involved in a terror case. To have her name removed from the list, he asked Rs. 6 Crore.
Over the course of three years, the victim transferred Rs. 89 lakh to various accounts. She was also taken to the Whitefield police station and the CID office by the accused to obtain the necessary clearances. He asked her to take a seat in the waiting area before disappearing with her passport.
After realising she had been duped, the victim filed a complaint. The accused was then taken into custody.
