BMTC to ply buses for essential services personnel from March 26

bmtc bus 25032020Bengaluru: Starting Thursday, March 26, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will begin services for all those personnel providing essential services.

BMTC bus services can be availed only on producing a valid ID.

According to a notice released on Twitter late on March 25 night, the BMTC informed that they will operate 180 buses from Thursday, with a maximum capacity of 20 passengers.

“BMTC has planned to operate 180 buses tomorrow with a maximum capacity of 20 passengers to enable movement of essential service delivery personnel. Police is giving curfew pass for essential service personnel. To travel in BMTC buses, Department ID card or curfew pass is mandatory,” the notice read.

In its notice, the BMTC listed the following as essential services:

1. Government employees of the Centre or State, or employees of PSUs like BESCOM, BWSSB, BMTC etc.
2. Government or private doctors, nurses, ward boys, pharmacy employees etc.
3. Security guards
4. Bank officials
5. Blood donors

The BMTC has instructed its crew to maintain social distancing and not allow many passengers on the buses.

It can be recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on March 24, put the entire country on lockdown starting on March 25 at 12 AM, in order to control the spread of the deadly novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Nation-wide, there are more than 600 cases. In Karnataka, there are 51 confirmed cases.
