Bengaluru: BJP MLA and Political Secretary of Chief Minister M. P. Renukacharya on Sunday February 6 accused Muslim community leaders and legislators C. M. Ibrahim, Tanveer Sait, Zameer Ahmed and U. T. Khader of trying to instigate communal tension in the State by encouraging girls to wear hijab to colleges.

Speaking to mediapersons he said that he has urged that the aforementioned leaders be charged for sedition. “The Hijab row, which began in Udupi and Kundapur, has now gone international. We will not let the Talibanisation of Karnataka. Those who try to get political gain by using innocent girls should be banished,” he added.

“After his Cabinet colleague Azeez Sait created communal disharmony in the State, then-Chief Minister Veerendra Patil lost power. Tanveer Sait is now following in his father’s footsteps. He is conspiring to promote communal disharmony,” he added.

“Religion and caste were not allowed in schools or colleges. Until recently, educational institutes had a uniform dress code. However, by encouraging a few females to wear hijabs, vested interests have created an undesirable situation,” he said.
