Bengaluru: The case against Kunigal MLA Dr. H. D. Ranganath for allegedly breaking Covid – 19 rules was stayed by the High Court on Monday May 23.

Ranganath and 12 others were charged by the Kunigal police for violating standard operating procedures and gathering in front of the police station on June 19, 2021.

In his plea to the High Court, Ranganath, a medical practitioner, said that he went to the station to disperse over 200 people who had gathered there to protest alleged police inaction in an accident case in which a person had died.

Under the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act 2020, the orthopaedic surgeon and others were charged.

The court issued notices to the respondents and stayed further proceedings in the matter.
