Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has proposed a 10% to 12% hike in the water charges.

According to the sources, the last time water charges were revised in the city was in 2013.

The sources in the BWSSB said that the hike has been proposed keeping in mind the revised electricity tariff, which is expected to bring Rs.15 crores additional expense.

According to the authorities, every month, the BWSSB is earning Rs.115 crores as revenue through various charges.

“However, due to the electricity rate revision, the BWSSB is expected to face more burden and that is why the board approached the government seeking permission to increase rate,” explained authorities.
