Bengaluru: By-election in Lakkasandra ward of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Council was held on Sunday. The by-election was necessitated due to the death of Mahesh Babu in a road accident. Babu and two others were killed in the road accident on July 17 while returning to Bengaluru from Mysuru after visiting Chamundi Hills. The accident took place at Gowripura near Srirangapatna.
D Mohan (Congress), Sarala Mahesh Babu (BJP), Parvez Ahmed (JD-S) and independents Rafiullah Khan and Sheikh Abdulla were in the fray. While Sarala Maheshbabu is confident of her victory because of the developmental works taken up by her late husband, Congress candidate Mohan is confident of his victory due to the sympathy factor. Mohan had unsuccessfully contested from Lakkasandra ward.
As many as 13,054 votes were polled and the counting of votes would be held on Wednesday.
