A 26-year-old canter driver lost his life after a part of a road-milling machine allegedly came loose and struck his vehicle on Mysuru Road in the early hours of Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Suheb Malik (26). The accident occurred at around 5.30 am near the Bengaluru Body Builders Junction after the vehicles descended the BGS flyover.
Machine part detaches, fatally injures driver
According to police, Malik was driving his canter alongside a road-milling machine on Mysuru Road. As both vehicles approached a speed hump, a component of the heavy machine allegedly became detached due to the impact.
While the canter was overtaking the road-milling machine, the detached metal part struck the driver’s side of the vehicle, causing Malik to suffer severe injuries.
He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead despite efforts to save his life.
Police register case
After receiving information about the accident, personnel from the Chamarajpet Traffic Police reached the spot, conducted a spot mahazar and cleared traffic congestion on the busy stretch of Mysuru Road.
Police have registered a case against the operator of the road-milling machine, suspecting negligence in operating or maintaining the heavy equipment.
Further investigation is underway to determine how the machine component became detached and whether safety protocols were followed during its movement.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over the movement of heavy construction machinery on city roads and the need for stricter safety checks to prevent such fatal accidents.
