IT services company Capgemini has issued a detailed statement following allegations of child abuse at a daycare centre operating within its Bengaluru campus, clarifying that the facility was managed by external service provider Little Scholars.

The company said it was treating the allegations with the utmost seriousness and expressed concern for the children and their families. It added that it is extending full support to those affected while cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.

Daycare temporarily shut

Capgemini said the daycare facility at its Brookefield campus was temporarily closed on July 1 after media reports highlighted allegations of abuse involving young children.

The company stated that it is working closely with investigating authorities to establish the facts. It also emphasised that daycare providers engaged by the company undergo due diligence and compliance checks as part of its employee welfare initiatives.

Support extended to affected families

According to the company, affected families have been provided access to a dedicated helpline, counselling services through its Employee Assistance Programme, and flexible work-from-home options to help them cope with the situation.

Capgemini reiterated that the daycare centre was operated independently by Little Scholars and not directly managed by the company.

Police widen investigation

Meanwhile, Bengaluru Police have intensified the investigation into the case. City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh has announced a review of daycare centres across the city, including those operating within corporate campuses, to verify compliance with safety and childcare regulations.

A special investigation team led by a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) has been constituted to probe the matter. Police have collected CCTV footage from the campus and sent the alleged abuse videos to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination.

According to police, an FIR was registered on June 29 against five caregivers under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Juvenile Justice Act. The complaint alleges that children at the daycare facility were subjected to physical and mental abuse. The allegations surfaced after videos purportedly showing the incidents were shared with the Child Helpline and later circulated on social media.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have assured that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
