Bengaluru The Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) has arrested a key accused in a cyber slavery and overseas employment fraud case at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru.
The arrested accused has been identified as Jai alias Babu, a native of Theni district in Tamil Nadu, who had been residing in Malaysia.
According to investigators, the accused was allegedly involved in a racket that lured Indian youth with promises of high-paying overseas jobs before trafficking them to Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos, where they were allegedly forced to work in cyber scam centres.
Victims rescued through coordinated effort
Police said the victims were rescued and brought back to India through coordinated efforts by the Government of India and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).
Based on the statements of the rescued victims, 26 criminal cases were registered across Tamil Nadu. The investigations into these cases were subsequently transferred to the CB-CID, which has been probing the organised trafficking network.
Investigation continues
Officials believe the arrest is a significant breakthrough in dismantling the international job fraud syndicate. Investigators are examining the accused’s role in recruiting victims, arranging their travel abroad, and facilitating their exploitation in cyber fraud operations.
The CB-CID is continuing its investigation to identify other members of the network and trace the financial transactions linked to the racket.
Authorities have urged job seekers to verify overseas employment offers through authorised agencies and avoid falling prey to fraudulent recruiters promising lucrative jobs abroad.
