Bengaluru: The Centre has released an amount of Rs 2,070 crore to Karnataka under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (Amrut) said Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu while addressing a press meet in Bengaluru on Saturday.
The mission aims to improve infrastructural facilities such as water supply, sewage treatment, drainage and urban transport.
A total of 27 cities from Karnataka had been selected under Amrut scheme. The centre instead of sanctioning funds each year decided to release funds at one go for the next three years. So far, Rs 4,971 crore has been allocated for Karnataka, Naidu said.
Further he added that the centre had already sanctioned Rs 388 crore to Belagavi and Davangere under the Smart City Mission and a proposal was awaited from Karnataka for including Bengaluru in the mission.
He said that the Union government had so far sanctioned Rs 16,700 crore for the metro rail network in Bengaluru.
