Chikkaballapura: Former Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy opined that poverty should be eradicated in the country by providing reservation based on the economic condition of the respective communities instead of giving reservation in proportion to the population in the State.
Speaking to mediapersons, he said that various communities are demanding reservation across the State. “We have been giving reservation on the basis of population. Yet poverty has not been eradicated,” he noted. Therefore, he said that poverty should be eradicated by providing reservation facility keeping in view the economic condition of the society rather than the population.
Replying to a question on the deadline given to the Government to increase the reservation for Vokkaliga Community, he demanded 12 per cent reservation. “A report on the economic situation of Vokkaligas, including sub-castes, should be prepared and a deadline should be given to the Government,” he suggested.
