Children’s news service launched

Bengaluru: It is the first children’s news service in India and the Children’s Scrappy News Service launched in style on November 14th. Choosing the symbolic Children’s Day to launch the service on social video platform YouTube, Delhi- based NGO ‘Going To School’ under the platform of ‘Scrappy Kids’ set up various different newsrooms in the state.

This one of a kind news service is for the kids and by the kids, there would be 14 social entrepreneurs including Team Indus and will have interactions, debates, knowledge sharing activities. The Bengaluru newsroom is set up in SVS Public School in Kempegowda Layout.

These Scrappy newsrooms, built completely out of scrap cater to the Children’s Scrappy News Service, a makeshift news service and news-talk-game show run by kids for kids, taking on India’s biggest problems and solving them with design-thinking and scrappy skill. The Child Journalists at their makeshift Scrappy News Service state that they are revolting and fighting to defend their environment since the world is in a mess and the grown-ups are too busy.

Says 10-year-old child anchor Dheeraj, “We want to make sure adults sit up and take note of the issues we are addressing and begin to act on the same.”

Another 11-year-old child anchor Valeska says, “This is a new perspective. This is what we feel is important and feel the need to talk to people who we feel will bring about a change.”

Lisa Heydlauff, Founder, Going to School says, “Scrappy means to create something out of nothing to change the way things are. And the good news is that Scrappy News is all good news. It’s about what you can do to make the world a better place. It’s a revolution that says we have no time left, let children lead.”

The Children’s Scrappy News Service launched simultaneously in Mumbai and Bihar.
