Chitradurga: The Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully carried out the first flight of the indigenously-developed unmanned aircraft on Friday July 1.

According to a press release. the aircraft exhibited perfect flight and a smooth touchdown while operating in a fully autonomous mode.

It further read that the flight marked a major milestone in proving critical technologies towards the development of future unmanned aircraft and is a significant step towards self-reliance in such strategic defence technologies.

The Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), Bengaluru, a top research facility of DRDO, designed and developed the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). A small turbofan engine powers it. The aircraft’s airframe, undercarriage, and entire flight control and avionics systems were all indigenously developed, stated the press release.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO for its accomplishment. “It is a major achievement towards autonomous aircraft and would pave the way for Atma Nirbhar Bharat in terms of critical military systems,” he tweeted.
