Chitradurga: Chitradurga has been included in the final list of districts for a national award being presented to mark the 10th year of implementation of schemes under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act such as successful recharge of defunct borewells.
As per sources the district has to its credit the success of recharging most of the defunct borewells across six taluks in the district.
The other districts in the list are from States such as Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Tripura, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Two districts will be chosen for award on January 15, which will be presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 2. A three-member team of Central officials visited the district recently and reviewed the works on recharging borewells taken up at Babbur, Maskal, Uduvalli Lakshmisagar, Ainalli and Yalagodu villages and expressed satisfaction over the implementation.
The team also reviewed the documents maintained by the officials with regard to the implementation of the works taken up in different taluks.
A member of the Central team said that 31 districts were part of the first list, from which 10 were shortlisted.
